Street Art London – 5th Free Thing to Enjoy
Contributed by SAT Travel correspondent- Christine Corbin
When friends come to visit London it is not always easy to choose where to take them as the list of places to see is never ending. Whilst some sights will set you back a pretty penny a visit to London’s newest “Gallery” is completely free. All you need is a comfortable pair of shoes and a keen set of eyes.
Spitalfields and Shoreditch house an ever changing array of Street Art. So on a sunny afternoon in the summer my friends and I embarked on a stroll around the back streets of the city to see what art we could find. I had previously taken one of the organised Street Art walks so had a fair idea of where to go but the “exhibits” change on an almost daily basis. The pieces on show range from huge wall murals both abstract and pictorial, tiny brass miniatures placed on street lamps, Banksy pieces and beautiful wall sculptures.
About five minutes into our walk we found a work in progress. It was fascinating to watch. No delicate brushes being used for this piece.
We wandered for a couple of hours and only saw a fraction of what the “gallery” had to offer. It was not all to our taste but the skill in many of the work’s creation is unquestionable.
