Marrakech
The wonderful exotic city of Marrakech at the foot of the Atlas Mountains is an excellent place for a short visit. Check out the beautiful Moorish architecture and the rambling streets of the Casbah and haggle for bargains in the city’s souks.
Day 1:
Arrive at Marrakech Menara airport where you will meet your guide and transfer by coach to your hotel. Recommended hotels: Les Jardins de la Koutoubia and Les Jardins de la Medina. After checking in you will take a carriage ride to the Menara and Majorelle gardens. The Menara gardens offer an amazing panoramic view of the Atlas Mountains and the Majorelle, a French designed garden, is a unique and beautiful place. It was created by Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s, a French artist came initially to explore Marrakech and the Berber country before he decided to stay for good and create these marvellous gardens where he introduced all different sorts of cacti and palms.
Day 2:
After breakfast you will start your guided tour of the city and its rich monuments including the Saadian tombs and the sumptuous royal pavilion, the Koutoubia minaret, a symbol for the city since 800 years, the Bahia palace with its lovely courtyards and late Moorish architecture. After lunch at the renowned Dar Moha restaurant, you will be taken to visit the hidden sides of Marrakech where you will discover the oldest building in the city, visit Medersa Ben Youssef, a medieval Koran school dating back to the 16th Century and considered as the most amazing architectural monument in the old Marrakech and the famous Koubba of the Almoravids, the remains of the 12th century mosque built by the son of the founder of the city. Before sunset you will be strolling in the square for which the city is so famed: Jemaa El Fna where hundreds of locals and tourists come to spend the end of the day watching jugglers, dancers, fortune tellers, story tellers and traditional musicians.
Day 3:
After Breakfast enjoy a scenic drive up into the high Atlas Mountains, make a few stops along the way for the stunning panoramic views before you reach the village of Imlil the centre of a beautiful valley dominated by highest peak in North Africa, Toubkal rising up to nearly 14000ft. On the back of a mule your guide will invite you to ascend to the Berber village of Aremd at more than 6000ft, perched over the valley of Imlil with a view on the highest peak in Morocco. In a local home you will be welcomed for a local cooking and baking course. After lunch return to your hotel and perhaps a final visit to the souks.
Day 4:
Transfer to Marrakech Airport for the return flight home.
